About Nicholas “Nick” Grosicki

Nicholas “Nick” Grosicki, BA, is a graduate counselling intern at Gentle Currents Therapy in Langley, British Columbia, where he works with clients under clinical supervision while completing his Master of Education in Counselling at the University of New Brunswick.

Nick approaches counselling with warmth, empathy, curiosity, and respect. He seeks to create a space where people can speak openly, feel genuinely heard, and explore their experiences without judgment. He believes that life can become more meaningful when we better understand what matters to us personally—our relationships, values, strengths, choices, challenges, and hopes for what might be different.

Rather than reducing someone to a diagnosis, difficulty, or painful chapter in their life, Nick wants to understand the whole person and work collaboratively with them at a pace that respects their comfort, needs, and goals.

Experience Supporting People Through Difficult Moments

Before beginning his graduate counselling internship, Nick developed several years of experience in helping roles with people facing a variety of challenges.

As a volunteer with the Fraser Health Crisis Line through Options Community Services, Nick supported people experiencing significant emotional distress. His work involved listening with empathy, helping callers de-escalate during difficult moments, assessing risk, exploring possible next steps, identifying community resources, and consulting with supervisors when situations required additional support.

This experience strengthened Nick’s ability to remain present during emotionally difficult conversations and reinforced the importance of meeting people with patience, respect, and compassion.

Nick also worked as a Behaviour Interventionist with Precision Learning Group, supporting youth on the autism spectrum through individualized developmental and life-skills programming. He collaborated with supervisors and communicated with parents and caregivers to better understand each young person’s needs, progress, and learning challenges.

His additional experience tutoring children further contributed to his interest in supporting children, adolescents, and young adults and helped deepen his appreciation for the different ways people learn, communicate, develop, and make sense of their experiences.

A Collaborative, CBT-Informed & Meaning-Centred Approach

Nick has a developing interest in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and in understanding how thoughts, emotions, and behaviours can interact and influence one another.

He is also drawn to existential and meaning-centred perspectives, including questions about identity, choice, purpose, relationships, freedom, values, and what makes life personally meaningful.

For Nick, counselling is not simply about trying to eliminate difficult feelings. It can also provide a place to better understand ourselves, recognize patterns, explore possibilities for change, identify strengths, and consider how we want to move forward.

Nick brings an authentic and collaborative presence to counselling. He does not assume that the same approach will work for everyone and welcomes the opportunity to understand each person’s perspective, culture, relationships, values, and lived experience.

Developing Areas of Clinical Interest

As a graduate counselling intern, Nick is continuing to develop his clinical knowledge and experience. His current areas of interest include:

  • anxiety and emotional distress;
  • children, adolescents, and young adults;
  • identity, meaning, purpose, and personal values;
  • significant life changes and transitions;
  • relationships and interpersonal concerns;
  • emotional awareness, coping, and self-understanding;
  • supporting children and youth on the autism spectrum;
  • culturally responsive counselling;
  • the experiences of immigrants, refugees, and newcomers;
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and meaning-centred approaches.

These are areas of developing clinical interest rather than claims of specialization. Nick approaches this stage of his professional development with humility, openness, and a commitment to continued learning.

Education & Academic Achievement

Nick is currently completing his Master of Education in Counselling at the University of New Brunswick. The program prepares developing counselling practitioners for work with individuals, groups, and families and includes graduate study in counselling theory, therapeutic relationships, ethical practice, case conceptualization, and supervised clinical development.

Before beginning his graduate studies, Nick completed a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at Simon Fraser University, together with a Minor in Counselling and Human Development.

His undergraduate education provided a foundation in psychology, human development, counselling theory, multicultural counselling, helping relationships, and the study of human behaviour, cognition, and emotion.

During his undergraduate studies, Nick was named to Simon Fraser University’s Dean’s Honour Roll for Fall 2021 in recognition of his academic achievement.

Clinical Supervision at Gentle Currents

At Gentle Currents Therapy, Nick completes his clinical internship under the supervision of Carlie Dinwoodie, MA, an experienced Clinical Counsellor with a background supporting children, individuals, couples, and families.

Clinical supervision provides Nick with an ongoing space for reflection, consultation, ethical decision-making, skill development, and thoughtful consideration of each client’s needs.

Nick values supervision as an essential part of his development as a counsellor. He brings openness, curiosity, and a willingness to learn to both his clinical work and professional development.

What You Can Expect When Working With Nick

Nick aims to offer a warm, authentic, and nonjudgmental counselling relationship where clients can feel acknowledged, respected, and genuinely heard.

He values careful listening and believes that meaningful change often begins by understanding the person’s experience rather than rushing to provide an answer or solution. Together, Nick and his clients can explore what is happening in their lives, what matters most to them, the patterns that may be contributing to difficulty, and the possibilities they may want to move toward.

Nick respects that counselling unfolds differently for each person. He will work collaboratively with you at a pace that feels appropriate to your needs, comfort, strengths, choices, and goals.

His approach reflects the Gentle Currents Statement of Care: each person’s story is larger than the difficulties they have experienced, and every person deserves to be met with dignity, compassion, and hope.

Every person who comes to Gentle Currents is welcomed with dignity, compassion, and hope.
